New Newmarket stakes winner by Sir Percy

Rich Hill Stud shuttler Sir Percy (GB) crowned his entry into the northern hemisphere stallion ranks with a stakes winning first on Saturday.

Coquet (2f Sir Percy – One So Marvellous by Nashwan) opened her sire’s black-type account in the Listed Montrose Stakes (1600m) at Newmarket.

Sir Percy now the sire of 11 individual two-year-old winners, including the Listed-placed Percy Jackson and the highly-regarded Salford Art.  The latter finished fourth in the recent G1 Fillies’ Mile Stakes at Ascot.

Coquet has now won two of her three starts for trainer Hughie Morrison following a prior victory at Newmarket.

The Montrose Stakes has proved a sound guide to future prospects as last year’s winner was subsequent English 1000 Guineas and Irish Oaks winner Blue Bunting while in 2009 it was claimed by Timepiece who went on to land the G1 Falmouth Stakes.

Coquet was purchased for 30,000 guineas by Morrison at the 2010 Tattersalls October Sale.  She is a half-sister to the Luca Cumani trained winner Midnight Oil.

They are out of the Nashwan mare One So Marvellous who is a sister to G1 Juddmonte International winner One So Wonderful.  She has a yearling colt by Darley siren New Approach.

Rich Hill will present the first southern bred Sir Percy yearlings at the NZ Bloodstock Karaka Sale in 2012.
