Fired ready to fly at Magpie Creek Thoroughbreds

Fired sired his winner when Nero’s Fire scored a resounding victory at Sunshine Coast on Wednesday.

Nero’s Fire (3c Fired – Distant Galaxy by Durbridge) sat in the box seat under apprentice Tyrone Huxham and then lengthened stride to win by three lengths in the Caloundra City Realty Maiden (1100m).

Fired is a son of Beautful Crown and stands at Steve Field’s Magpie Creek Thoroughbreds which is situated at the foot of Mt Tambourine at Canungra in Queensland.

Fired was bred by Andrew and Lasca Bowcock at Alanbridge Stud in 2001.  Their Hunter Valley nursery changed hands in 2008 to become Patinack Farm.

Nero’s Fire is trained by Johnno Johnston at Sunshine Coast and he also prepares the Fired filly Pro Ace for the Field family.  She is back in work and also has her fair share of ability.

“Like everyone else, we were stranded when E.I. struck,” Field recalled.  “We could only get a handful of mares to Fired and then, to make matters worse, we had a bad case of strangles the following year.

“But the horses are none the worse for the setbacks.  They’re all healthy and I’m quietly confidant Fired will have three or four winners in the next couple of months.  Hopefully, that will help increase the number of outside mares he covers in 2010.”

In the meantime, the Fields are enjoying a good run with their talented Great Dane mare Lilly of the Field who has won three races on the Sunshine Coast cushion track this year.

Fired stands for a $2,200 (inc gst) service fee and Field can be contacted on (07) 5543 0088.
