A day after Clangalang sired Hi Belle to win at Kilmore, he doubled up with another nice type named Mistaken Grace at Echuca on Thursday.
Hi Belle (3f Clangalang – Seldom Caught by Jugah) flew home in a performance that made her our Maiden Winner of the Day on December 30.
Mistaken Grace (3f Clangalang – Turlington by Sanction) was just as impressive winning over 1600 metres at Echuca. She refused to surrender the lead when tackled by Uma Love in the straight to score by a head.
Still in her first preparation, Mistaken Grace is trained by Shane Nichols at Yarra Valley. He also prepared her dam Turlington to win for the same connections at Caulfield.
Retired to stud in 2001, Turlington produced the winners Walnut Creek (Bellotto) and Duke Of Danville (Val Royal) before Mistaken Grace.
Turlington was sold by Eliza Park (as agent) for $5,000 at the 2006 Inglis Melbourne June Sale. She was bought by Stormberg Stud owner Carol Stuart carrying Mistaken Grace. The mare has since delivered two fillies and a colt by Stormberg sire Zephyr’s Tornado.
Clangalang’s winner count increased to 25 on New Year’s Eve but the recent rally didn’t come in time for a berth at the 2010 Inglis Melbourne yearling sale. He has over 40 yearlings but none of them made the cut for the Premier Sale at Oaklands Junction in March.
