Vinery shuttler Big Brown is off the mark as a sire and his first winner arrived in Russia.
Ruby Brown (2f Big Brown – Truely Ruby by Red Ransom) made the breakthrough over 1000 metres at Kazan which is 400km directly east of Moscow. She was exported to Russia after selling for $15,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale.
The filly is trained by Kozhomzharov Marat for Volgogradskiy Stud and is a half-sister to Majestic Roi (Street Cry) who was a G1 winner of the 2007 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket.
Kazan is one of the major economic and scientific centres of Russia and its Equestrian Sports Club hosted the 2006 World Cup trotting championships.
Big Brown shuttles to Vinery Australia from Three Chimneys Farm in Kentucky. In 2008, he was a G1 winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes but a severely quartered hoof prevented him from sweeping the Triple Crown in the Belmont Stakes.
A son of Boundary (Danzig), his first northern crop were popular at the 2011 yearling sales and 2012 Ready to Runs. His colt from Cool Ghoul (Silver Ghost) made $1.30 million to the bid of Coolmore Stud at the Fasig-Tipton Florida 2YO Sale in March.
Big Brown’s first Hunter Valley yearlings will be catalogued for the 2013 majors. He is standing for a $22,000 fee at Vinery this year.
