First Group winner for Street Sense

Darley’s first-crop sire Street Sense was represented by his first Group winner on Sunday when Motor City captured the G3 Iroquis Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Motor City (2c Street Sense – Shawgatny by Danzig Connection) was shuffled back between horses but Calvin Borel tucked him in behind the speed before splitting horses in the straight.  He won by three-quarters of a length from front-runner Seven Lively Sins.

Borel won then 2006 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and 2007 Kentucky Derby on Street Sense.  The son of Street Cry has sired 8 winners in the northern hemisphere so far this year.

He shuttles to Australia from at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky where he stands for a $40,000 service fee.

Motor City is trained by Ian Wilkes and is a half-brother to the Listed Winkfield Stakes winner Satulagi.  They are out of the Danzig Connection mare Shawgatny who is a half-sister to the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas runner-up Star of Gdansk.

Satulagi has been catalogued as Lot 1647 in foal to either Hurricane Run or Fastnet Rock at the upcoming Tattersalls December Sale.

The first Street Sense yearlings in Australia made headlines at the various majors earlier this year.

Peter Moody bought the Street Sense – Aristocracy colt that topped Day 4 of the Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He was sold by Highgrove Stud for $440,000.

A Street Sense – Desert Ibis colt was sold for a record-breaking $320,000 at the Inglis Easter Session II from the Goodwood Farm consignment.

A Street Sense – Jezabeel filly topped Day 1 at the Perth Magic Millions.  She was sold by Serpentine based Distinct Racing & Breeding for $200,000.

A Street Sense – La Melba (Grand Lodge) filly topped the Yarradale Stud yearling sale at $180,000.  She is a half sister to Darley filly Raspberries and was purchased by leading owner Keith Biggs.
