Group 1 double on the horizon for Pins

Kindred took another winning step toward a possible Group 1 berth at Motukarara on Sunday.  She holds a nomination for the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas at Riccarton next month.

The progressive Pins filly broke her maiden at Ashburton and now has two strikes from four appearances for Rangiora trainer Jason Bridgman.

Kindred (3f Pins – Kind Return by Zabeel) jumped straight to the front under Jamie Bullard and held a strong gallop to account for Bacio Francese (Lucky Unicorn) and Orabella (No Excuse Needed) at Motukarara.

She was sold through the draft of Esker Lodge for $260,000 during the 2010 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka.

Kindred is a sister to G2 Perth Cup winner Respect and a half-sister to G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Kindacross (Cape Cross).  Their dam Kind Return was G1 placed in a Zabeel Classic and Auckland Cup.

Reigning Centaine Award champion Pins (Snippets) made his mark at Motukarara meeting when Made My Point was successful in the Banks Peninsula Cup.  He is closely-related to G1 Kranji Sprint winner Waikato (Pins).

The Waikato Stud sire completed an international double on Sunday with promising stayer Smart Giant at Sha Tin .

The John Moore-trained galloper is also on a G1 mission after claiming the Lek Yuen Hcp (1800m).  The NZ bed gelding will be set for the 2012 Hong Kong Derby (2400m).

“The Derby is a long way away so we don’t want to put the cart before the horse,” jockey Darren Beadman said.  “But he’s headed in the right direction.”

Smart Giant (NZ) has all the right credentials for the classic being a half-brother to G1 Australasian Oaks winner Daffodil (No Excuse Needed).

Pins will be represented by 9 lots at NZB Ready To Run Sale on November 15 & 16.
