Windsor Park shuttler Pour Moi (Ire) sired his first Kiwi-bred winner when Just You scored impressively at Otaki (1000m) on Tuesday.
Just You had been runner-up on debut at Otaki in September and was then checked out of contention by a fallen runner in the LR Wellesley Stakes at Trentham last month. There were no traffic problems back in the South Island third time out when he sprinted to a three length victory in the Stella Artois 2YO (1000m).
Bred by the Spyglass Hill Syndicate, Just You is out of the Fusaichi Pegasus mare Monte Makemyday and was purchased for $60,000 out of Little Avondale Stud’s Karaka Select draft by Kamada Bloodstock.
“He jumped well today and went forward before coming back under me,” winning rider Darryl Bradley said. “He got in among them, which was good after Wellington, and he travelled into it nicely. He will learn a lot and he had a good look around, but he got away from them well.”
Pour Moi (Montjeu) won the 2011 English Derby in the last of five racecourse appearances for owners John Magnier, Michael Tabor & Derrick Smith. He shuttled from Coolmore Ireland to Windsor Park in 2012 and 2013 but hasn’t flown south for the last two years.
His first European stakes winner arrived last Friday when Only Mine landed the LR Bosra Sham Stakes at Newmarket.
