First Season sires at NZ Bloodstock May Sale

NZ Bloodstock’s National Sale starts on Monday, May 2 at Karaka with a weanling catalogue that includes foals by 11 first-season sires.

ALAMOSA (NZ)
Group 1 winner as a 2YO, 3YO and 4YO.  Champion son of O’Reilly has a draft of 7 weanlings on offer.
Lot 10 from Curraghmore Stud.  Filly from the stakes-placed mare Russian (Tribunal)
Lot 322 from Trelawney Stud.  Colt from a half-sister to the G1 winner Silver Chance (Hilarion) and the dam of G2 winner Tinseltown (Pentire).

GUILLOTINE (NZ)
A Montjeu half-brother to G1 VRC Derby – Melbourne Cup winner in Efficient.  He was a G2 winner of the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) in Melbourne and has a strong draft of 13 weanlings.
Lot 40 from Windsor Park Stud.  Colt from the family of G1 winners Sky Chase (Star Way) and Kindacross (Cape Cross).
Lot 343 from Blue Gables Farm.  Colt from a sister to G3 winner Resonare.

SIR PERCY (GB)
One of only six horses to win the G1 Dewhurst Stakes – G1 English Derby double beating champion colt Dylan Thomas in the process.  Sir Percy has two standouts.
Lot 127 from Rich Hill Stud.  Colt from a half-sister to G1 winner Des’s Dream (Dahar).  Family of G2 winner Natural Blitz (Dehere).
Lot 206 from Curraghmore Stud.  Half-brother to G2 winner Boulevardofdreams (Daggers Drawn).

AUTHORIZED (Montjeu)
Triple Group 1 winner and Europe’s 2007 Champion 3YO Colt
Lot 312 from Monovale Farm.  Filly from a half-sister to G1 winner and sire Mossman (Success Express).

SAHKEE’S SECRET (Sahkee)
July Cup winner and 2007 Champion 3YO English Colt.
Lot 231 from Hallmark Stud.  Filly from the Encosta de Lago mare Halloween from the family of Titanic Jack (Encosta de Lago) and Sober Suit (Noalcoholic).

FULLY FLEDGED  (Align)
Group 1 2YO winner of the Diamond Stakes
Lot 238 from Highden Park.  Colt from the High Chaparral mare High Tea, a half-sister to the G1 winner Prized Gem (Prized), the dam of the AJC Derby winner Nom du Jeu (Montjeu).

MURTAJILL  (Redoute’s Choice)
Group 3 winning sire son of Redoute’s Choice
Lot 360 from Westbury Stud.  Filly from Political Princess (Desert Prince), a half-sister to the G1 winner Landsighting (Grieg) and the stakes winner Danzylum (Danzero).

When looking at first season sires, there are few better examples to highlight the opportunities that await buyers than the story of High Chaparral.  His first weanlings sold for an average of just $19,875, with his first yearlings selling for an average of $62,800.

Compare that to 2011 where he had 33 yearlings sell for an average of $237,500 to see the potential on offer.

The exposure by New Zealand breeders to top internationally performed thoroughbreds continues to grow, with sires such as Iffraaj, Excellent Art, Street Sense and Haradasun all well received and selling well in the 2011 Karaka Yearling Sales.

The 2011 May Sale will see the next wave of these internationally acclaimed sires through the NZ Bloodstock sale ring, with some promising young progeny on offer amongst the 370 weanling entries.
