The 2001 Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos is recovering from colic surgery at Nuckols Farm.

Monarchos (Maria’s Mon) is expected to recover and begin serving mares again in three to four weeks.  He has sired 13 stakes winners including 2009 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint heroine Informed Decision.

Monarchos ran the second-fastest Kentucky Derby in history when clocking 1:59.97s.  He joined the immortal Secretariat as the only winners to cover the 2000m classic in less than two minutes.
