First winner by Choistar

Randwick stakes winner Choistar made the perfect start at stud when Magic Square scored on debut at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.

The Chris Anderson trained filly banked $10,000 prizemoney plus an $8,500 QTIS bonus for winning the Office Delivering Value Maiden (1000m) by a long neck.

Magic Square (2f Choistar – Imagined by King of Danes) was bred by Stanthorpe-based sheep farmer Gordon Smith and his wife Cathy.  Her dam is a three-quarter sister to Miss Imagica who won back-to-back LR Weetwood Handicaps in 2012 and 2013.

Choistar was a five-length winner of the Listed AJC Fernhill Handicap at Randwick.  His Ballina based owner David Browne subsequently knocked back a huge Hong Kong offer but would have rued that decision when the colt’s career was cut short after being galloped on in the 2010 Magic Millions 3YO Trophy.

He was based for two seasons at Clear Mountain Fairview Stud in Greenmount before transferring to Cangon Stud in NSW where he stands alongside Nothin’ Leica Dane.
