First winner by Dundeel

Cutadeel cut the ribbons for Arrowfield Stud stallion Dundeel (NZ) with a professional performance at Tauranga on Friday.

Prepared by Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman, he defeated stablemate Thomas Aquinas (Jakkalberry) in the Matamata Veterinary Services 2YO (1200m).  “There wasn’t a lot between them but the winner had the advantage of a right-handed trial,” Baker said.  “It’s good to have trained Dundeel’s first winner.  He was a fantastic racehorse and it’s great to see him sire a winner already.

“This one is a really nice horse.  We’ve got four or five by Dundeel and they all go pretty well.”

Bearing similar markings to his illustrious sire, Cutadeel responded to an aggressive Jonathan Riddell ride to race on the speed for a three-quarter length victory.  He’s a homebred for a partnership that includes Hawke’s Bay owner Murray Anderson, his sister Sharyn Craig and her husband Mike.

The same syndicate raced Dundeel (High Chaparral) to Group 1 victories in the Australian Derby and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.  He stands at Arrowfield for a $27,500 (inc gst) fee.

Cutadeel’s dam Dineeta (Dylan Thomas) is a half-sister to Cathay Lady (LR Gosford Belle of the Turf) and her younger half-brother by Deep Field has been catalogued as Lot 456 for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale on Tuesday, March 6.

Dineeta was sold to Victorian-based Tara Farm owner David Neate in 2016 and she foaled a Reset colt in September.
