Former Queensland sire Love De Cause was credited with his first winner on Saturday.
Sara’s Gift (4m Love De Cause – Capturing by Grand Lodge) made the breakthrough at Goondiwindi for part-owner and trainer John Hearne . She started a $2.20 favourite after placings at Dalby and Chinchilla.
The only other first-crop starter for Love De Cause has been Cause For Joy. She has been placed at Ipswich (October) and Beaudesert (November) for trainer Andrew Cowell.
Love De Cause, a Swettenham Stud bred son of Giant’s Causeway and G1 Bayer Classic winner Love De Tor, cost $250,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions HIT Sale. He won on debut at Doomben in July 2008 for trainer Maryann Thexton but his career was curtailed by a sesamoid injury.
Initially, Love De Cause stood privately and covered a total of 9 mares in 2009 and 2011. He didn’t serve any mares in 2010 and a Thoroughbred Express news item in October 2012 reported he had transferred to Woodwinds Stud at Beaudesert.
He came up empty after covering three mares that year and there are no further records of him in the breeding barn as documented by the Australian Stud Book.
