Newgate Farm’s exciting young sire Sizzling moved off the mark with his first winner on Melbourne Cup Day.
His filly Sugar Sizzle carried the Aquis Farm colours to victory in the J H Williams Maiden (900m) at Murwillumbah. The Angela Plumb-trained youngster defeated older horses with a determined short-head victory over Darth Vader (Lonhro).
A $55,000 Magic Millions purchase from Marquee Stud, Sugar Sizzle is the second winner from Exceed and Excel mare Sugar Rose, who comes from the family of Group 1 winner Egg Tart.
Sizzling (Snitzel) was trained by Kelso Wood for a syndicate headed by David Devine and champion footballer Leigh Matthews. He won 7 times in 21 starts including the G1 T J Smith (1600m) and G2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm.
Newgate Farm stands Sizzling for a fee of $16,500.
