Senora Acero surged to a two-length length victory in Kentucky on Saturday to register the first win for Newgate Farm shuttler The Factor (USA).
The Bret Calhoun conditioned filly won an Ellis Park maiden second-up after an unplaced debut at Churchill Downs in June. She was backed from $11 into $5 and, after a slow start, got into gear to charge past front-runner Conquest Sorceror (Pure Prize).
Senora Acero (2f The Factor – Riboletti by Distorted Humor) is from a daughter of Champion filly Riboletta (Brz) and was a $40,000 buy at the 2015 Keeneland September yearling sale.
The Factor shuttles to Newgate from Lane’s End Farm and there are 105 juveniles in his first northern crop. A son of War Front (Danzig), he was trained by Bob Baffert for Group 1 victories in the Malibu Stakes (1400m) and Pat O’Brien Stakes (1400m).
His first southern hemisphere foals made up to $220,000 this year. Agent James Bester paid top price for the colt ex Manhattan Angel (Statue Of Liberty) at the Magic Millions National Sale.
The Factor stands for a $16,500 (inc gst) fee at Newgate Farm.
