Spendthrift Farm has purchased More Than Ready’s star colt Tom’s Ready as a potential shuttler for Victoria.
Tom’s Ready (USA) is a last-start winner of the G2 Woody Stephens Stakes (1400m) at Belmont Park and is being set to emulate his sire in the G1 King’s Bishop Stakes (1400m) at Saratoga on August 27.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to stand such a talented and progressive colt as Tom’s Ready,” Spendthrift general manager Ned Toffey said. “He’s one of the best-looking colts we’ve ever seen by More Than Ready who is emerging as an important sire of sires both in America and Australia.
“Tom’s Ready is incredibly sound and versatile, and we believe his Woody Stephens performance is just the beginning of a big future ahead.”
Owners Tom & Gayle Benson will continue to campaign Tom’s Ready throughout the remainder of the colt’s racing career which also includes a Group 1 goal in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (1200m) at Keeneland on November 5.
“We like to thank everyone at Spendthrift for believing in our horse,” Gayle Benson said. “He still has productive racing days ahead, and we are excited about his future on the track and at stud.”
Tom’s Ready (3c More Than Ready – Goodbye Stranger by Broad Brush) is a full-brother to USA stakes performer Consulado and cost $145,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale.
Spendthrift continues to cast the net wide for locally-bred stallion prospects. Its Redoute’s Choice colts Redouble and Swear are being readied for spring campaigns by Team Hawkes after impressive juvenile wins in April.
This year’s majors were also targeted with $800,000 for a Fastnet Rock colt at the Gold Coast Magic Millions and $750,000 for the Snitzel half-brother to Group 2 Brisbane winner Attention at the Inglis Easter Sale.
Spendthrift Australia’s “Breed Secure” and “Share the Upside” programs will again apply for its second southern season in Victoria. This year’s Romsey roster is headed by Warrior’s Reward ($11,000) and also includes Hampton Court ($8,800) and Jimmy Creed ($8,800).
