First winner for Goodwood Park sire St Averil

Goodwood Park stallion St Averil (USA) sired his first winner when Goddess Angel streeted her rivals by more than five lengths at Timonium in Maryland on Sunday.  St Averil shuttles to the Queensland stud from Bonita Farm in Maryland.  His first Australian foals are on the ground at Allora.

Goddess Angel (2f St Averil – Double Artemis by Double Zeus) is trained by Dale Capuano and was bred locally by Charles McGinnes.  She was a cheap US$3,700 buy at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton Maryland Sale last October.

St Averil (Saint Ballado) represents the Halo sireline and he was runner-up to Coolmore shuttler Lion Heart in the Hollywood Futurity at two.  He went into that Group 1 at just his second start after winning on debut at Santa Anita.

Returning at three, he won the G2 Santa Catalina Stakes and was then runner-up (beaten a nose) in the G2 San Felipe Stakes.  He retired with over US$328,00 in earnings from a 13-4-2-2 career line.

St Averil is out of G2 winning mare Avie’s Fancy (Lord Avie) and he is a half-brother to stakes winner Our Cozzette (Cozzene) who is the dam of stakes-winning juvenile filly Our Fantene (Touch Gold).

St Averil stands for a $5,500 (inc gst) service fee at Marshall and Joyce Boyd’s Goodwood Park.  He stands alongside Legal Opinion (Danehill), Specialize (Bluebird) and Duntroon Digger (Royal Academy).
