Fituese set for Denise’s Joy Stakes

Lynward Park-bred filly Fituese won a Randwick barrier trial on Tuesday ahead of a much-anticipated second campaign for Prime Thoroughbreds and trainer John Thompson.

Fituese (3f Deep Field – Cattalo by Tiger Hill) let down from the back-half of the field to put a length on recent Canterbury winner Intrepidacious over 736 metres.

“John has done a great job with her,” Prime manager Joe O’Neill said.  “She improved with each run last time in and looks to have a big future.  She wins with ease and comes back as if she hasn’t had a run.  She’s a ripper and is very strong.”

Present plans are for a first-up assignment at Randwick on Saturday week, May 2.  She will then be set for the LR Denise’s Joy Stakes (1100m) which has been transferred from Scone to Rosehill on May 16.

Fituese cost $55,000 when sold by Western Breeders Alliance (as agent) at the 2018 Perth Magic Millions.  She won at Newcastle, Warwick Farm and Canterbury during her first prep and was only beaten a length and a half at her most recent run in the LR Gosford Guineas (1200m) at Xmas.

Lynward Park bought Cattalo in foal to Deep Field for $30,000 at the 2016 Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale.  Her 2yo Stella Fair (Trade Fair) is with Adam Durrant and she was narrowly beaten in a Bunbury trial earlier this month.

Cattalo has a yearling filly and a weanling filly from the first two crops by Lynward Park’s G2 Sandown Guineas winner Mahuta (Flying Spur).

The Bullsbrook stud was also in the frame on Saturday when Utgard Loki won for the second time in a month at Ascot.  He’s a homebred for Lynward owners Ted & Marilyn van Heemst and their sons Troy & Chad.

Utgard Loki (Frost Giant) is a half-brother to G3 La Trice Classic winner I’m Feeling Lucky (Bletchley Park).  Their Irish-bred dam Twinkle Toes (Danehill) is from a half-sister to leading sires Dr Devious, Archway, Royal Court and Shinko King.

Lynward purchased G1 Champagne Stakes runner-up Bondi (Snitzel) to stand alongside Mahuta last year and his first book included Moreish (G3 WA Oaks), Fontainebleau (LR Belmont Oaks), All Friared Up (LR Beaufine Stakes) and Queen Karnilla who is a sister to Utgard Loki.
