Five 2yo features for General Nediym

General Nediym sired another juvenile feature winner when Sister Havana was successful in the NZ Karaka Million (1200m) at Ellerslie on Sunday.  The Aussie raider was ridden just off the pace by Stathi Katsidis before breaking clear in the straight.

General Nediym, who died at Widden Stud 12 months ago, has now been represented by five feature winners among his current crop of two year-olds.  Sweet Cheeks started the ball rolling in the VRC Maribyrnong Trial and she was followed by Big River (NZ Wellesley Stakes), Marmaa (MVRC Inglis Juvenile) and Military Rose (Gold Coast MM 2yo Classic).

Sister Havana (2f General Nediym – Ultima Vita by Canny Lad) was purchased from Shelby Park’s draft for $40,000 at the 2009 Karaka Select Sale.  She is half-sister to Group placed Hong Kong sprinter Tchaikovsky (Snippets) and is also related to G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reward for Effort (Exceed and Excel).

Sister Havana has earned over $550,000 for owner Tony Carroll who has been a friend Birchley’s since their schooldays.  Birchley was runner-up with Sarge in Charge (Golan) in the 2009 Karaka Million.
