Orbity (NZ) was identified early on by her trainers as a potential star but they were forced to take a patient approach with the filly.
The wait proved worthwhile when the diminutive filly delivered on that promise when posting her fifth consecutive win in the LR Fordell O’Learys Fillies Stakes (1200m) at Wanganui.
“We thought she was one of our best two-year-olds after winning a trial at Paeroa,” said Andrew Forsman who prepares the winner at Cambridge with Murray Baker. “She ran second to Ruud Awakening at her first start and we were pushing her to the Karaka Million, but the hard summer tracks got to her and she was too immature.”
Orbity (3f Magic Albert – Jane Jetson by Jetball) was put aside and returned to win at Rotorua, Ruakaka, Te Awamutu and Awapuni (LR Ryder Stakes) on rain-affected tracks.
She doubled her black type haul on Saturday with a front-running victory over Karaka Million runner-up Fantastic Honour (Any Suggestion) and Philipa Charlotte (Bachelor Duke). “I thought she might have been a bit vulnerable if they were going to soften her up in front,” Forsman added. “I don’t see why we won’t go to the Gold Trail Stakes now – it’s the logical step.”
Orbity is a homebred for the Morton family who also raced Group 1 star Nom Du Jeu (Australian Derby) with Baker. She is by Magic Albert (Zeditave) who stands at Yarraman Park Stud.
Her dam Jane Jetson has also foaled Brisbane black-type sprinter Meet George (Rock of Cashel ) and she also has a yearling filly by Nom du Jeu.
