Shoreham has produced an exciting first-up effort to defeat a strong field in the Listed VRC Sofitel Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.
Shoreham (4g Reset – Teneales Pearl by Redoute’s Choice) kept finding under Chris Symonds to collar the favourite Dany The Fox (Danroad) right on the line. “Don’t underestimate this horse because he’s a little better than what people think,” trainer Saab Hassan said. “His aim is the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup double.”
Saturday was Shoreham’s first start since a G1 in the South Australian Derby in May. A Flemington specialist his 3 wins from 12 starts have been at headquarters starting out in the Ken Cox Hcp (1420m) in June 2012 and continuing in the LR Galilee Series Final (2500m) in April 2013.
Shoreham was bred by Jim and June Anderson and offered on their behalf by Little Plains Stud at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale. He was picked up by James Bester Bloodstock for $45,000 and has now earned over $300,000.
By Darley’s Victorian based resident Reset, he is the first foal of an unraced half-sister to Randwick Listed winner Hy Fuji (Fuji Kiseki) and the dams of stakes winners Triple Elegance (Mossman) and At The Heads (Hussonet).
Reset is the sire of 24 stakes winners including G1 Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker and G1 Victorian Derby winner Rebel Raider. He is standing the current breeding season at Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500( inc gst).
