Mr Griswold gave the new-look Cornerstone Stud roster another fillip at Flemington on Saturday.
Mr Griswold (4g Good Journey – Dance The Breeze by Dance Floor) edged out Riceman to win the David Bourke Provincial Plate (1620m). He has now qualified for the $200,000 Winter Championship Final (1600m) back at Flemington on July 9.
Co-trainer Simon Zahra was impressed with the winner. “He ran a super race against Jungle Ruler last time. We thought he was just a nice little midweek horse but he keeps improving.”
Mr Griswold has been in the first two home in 7 of his 11 starts. “If it rains for the Winter Championship, great,” Zahra said. “It will bring him into the Final even more.”
His sire Good Journey will stand for an $11,000 (inc gst) fee at Cornerstone Stud this year.
Sam Hayes and Darren Thomas purchased the breeding arm of Lindsay Park from David Hayes in July 2008. They renamed the history property Cornerstone in May.
The good news kept coming for Cornerstone last month when Hayes added former Arrowfield sire Hussonet to the top-end of its line-up.
Good Journey followed up with LR Lone Star Derby winner Thirtyfirststreet on May 30. The chestnut had won the California Breeders’ Champion Stakes at Santa Anita in December.
Good Journey (Nureyev) was a G1 winner of the Atto Mile at Woodbine and his Australian bred progeny includes G1 WATC Derby heroine Grand Journey and G2 MVRC Alister Clark Stakes winner Sound Journey.
He has sired 43 individual winners in Australia and they have arrived at a 59% strike-rate.
Apart from Good Journey, the Cornerstone roster includes Hussonet ($25,000), Reaan ($9,900), Shrewd Rhythm ($6,050), Barely a Moment ($6,050), De Beers ($4,950) and Face Value (FOA).
