Foals fill float to Rushton Park

Rushton Park owner David Johnson purchased five foals at the Inglis Great Southern Sale to complement his buys at last month’s Magic Millions National Sale.

The foals that floated from Oaklands Junction back to his Tatura property included colts by Victorian sires Helmet and Statue of Liberty.  Johnson will pin-hook them along with a Golden Archer colt from the Gold Coast.

Golden Archer stands at Raheen Stud and his first foals have impressed astute horsemen like Johnson.  “I loved the colt at the Magic Millions and he was value at $28,000.  The market was very strong on the Gold Coast but we had a crack and came away very happy.

“Our Golden Archer has got a great body and is a lovely walker – all in all a wonderful type,” Johnson added.  “Nice colts always make good money and he will furnish into an outstanding yearling.  I will get him ready for the Melbourne Premier or Adelaide Magic Millions.

“Golden Archer was a top-class sprinter for Peter Moody and I think he will make it as a sire.”

His Gold Coast colt is from Alyssa Jean (Dodge), a winning half-sister to the stakes winners War Of The Worlds (G3 HK Premier Bowl) and Conquered Dream (LR Turffontein Derby Trial).

Golden Archer was a precocious colt winning juvenile stakes races at Flemington and Moonee Valley and he trained on to win the G3 McNeil Stakes at three and LR Heath 1100 as a four year-old.  “He was a real professional and a tremendous horse throughout his career,” Moody recalled.  “I had him lined up for a trip to England with Black Caviar – that’s how highly I rated him.”

Raheen Stud has given Golden Archer every chance to succeed with 100 mares in each of his first two seasons in Queensland.  His fee has been kept at $6,600 (inc gst) service fee this year to ensure the numbers keep increasing.
