Broodmares followed the trend set by foals at this week’s Inglis Great Southern Sale when 196 Lots grossed over $2.29 million.
Redoute’s Choice winner Illusional topped the Broodmare Sale when purchased by Flemington trainer John Salanitri for $160,000 from Phoenix Broodmare Farm. The 13 year-old mare has foaled the Group 2 winners Chase The Rainbow (Dash For Cash) and Ms Funovits (Reset).
“Overall, there was good competition on the better quality mares,” Inglis Victorian Director Peter Heagney said. “But the sale also highlighted the widening gap between commercial and non-commercial mares.”
Lamiraqui (Lot 747) and Streetcar Stella (Lot 760) were next best on the leader-board at $125,000.
Lamiraqui (Choisir) was purchased by Eliza Park International from the draft of Rosemont Stud. The mare’s foals include Group 1 performer Pressing and is she was sold in foal to Sebring.
“She is probably the best mare in the catalogue in terms of pedigree so $125,000 was reasonable value,” EPI manager Phil Marshall said. “She’s got a lot of commercial appeal and, if you get a nice foal, it will get into the best sales in the country.”
Streetcar Stella (Blevic) was sold from the draft of Stonehouse Thoroughbreds to Seamus Mills Bloodstock. “The mare will foal down to I Am Invincible and will then visit Star Witness,” Mills said. “Opportunities to buy mares as good looking as this one – and in foal to I Am Invincible – are reasonably rare these days.”
