Karaka graduate Ottimo notched up his fourth consecutive career win in Hong Kong on Thursday. The Cape Cross gelding was purchased by the HKJC for $240,000 from Cambridge Stud at the 2008 NZB Premier yearling sale.
Ottimo produced a brilliant performance to win the C3 Heung Yip Handicap at Happy Valley. He settled fourth on the rail behind Easy Ahead (Hawk Wing) who slid to a four-length break at the top of the straight. However, in a great ride, Howard Cheng rated Ottimo beautifully and got him off the rail to claim the leader and win eased up by more than two lengths.
Ottimo (4g Cape Cross – Foxette by Entrepreneur) has accumulated HK$1.89 million with 4 wins from 8 starts. His dam Foxette is a half sister to G2 winner Zacielo (Zabeel) and the family goes back to Taiona.
A Zabeel half sister to Ottimo was sold at the 2010 NZB Premier yearling sale for $310,000 and another half sister by Keeper will be offered in the 2011 National yearling sale series. Ottimo is also from the same family as the Encosta de Largo – Foxwood colt (Lot 295) in the 2011 NZB Ready to Run Sale.
The Ready to Run Sale catalogue is now online with printed catalogues available from 27 September.
The 2011 National Yearling Sale Series runs from 31 January to 7 February with catalogues available 26 November.
