Tycoon fires first volley

Written Tycoon has fired the first volley in the race to become Australia’s Champion first-season sire for 2010-11.

The Eliza Park freshman has sired three trial winners this week starting with Masthead (x Balsamico by Redoute’s Choice) at Cranbourne on Monday morning.  He is trained by Lee Freedman and clocked the quickest time of the morning.

At Randwick, the David Payne trained colt Trump (x Queenie by Black Minnaloushe) ran the second fastest trial in preparation for the Breeders’ Plate at Randwick on October 2.  He is the spitting image of his sire.

Paul Perry added a third when Some Boy (x Paris Storm by General Nediym) won a Newcastle hit-out on Wednesday.

The Written Tycoons catalogued for the Magic Millions National HIT Sale next month looked readymade runners at the Gold Coast breeze-ups last week.  Three of them broke 11 seconds.

Written Tycoon (Iglesia) was a talented and precocious 2YO in his own right and he has been popular since arriving at Eliza Park in 2007.  He has covered 323 mares and is scheduled for another three figure book this spring.

Written Tycoon stands the 2010 season at a fee of $6,600 and, after a run of bookings, limited numbers remain.
