This week’s Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale began with a session of 128 foals that averaged $29,164 on Sunday.

The average increased 7% from 2017 and the clearance rate rose 5 points to 92%.

Sheamus Mills Bloodstock (FBAA) figured in the Top 5 leader-board with a Written Tycoon – Rossa Mia colt (pictured) that cost $110,000 from Evergreen Stud. His dam is a half-sister to Melbourne stakes winners Stokehouse and Malasun.

“He’s a good walking colt and Written Tycoon has a proven record of producing good horses from skinny pages on the dam’s side. I think most people who look at Written Tycoons aren’t expecting blueblood pedigrees.

“He is a September foal and that gives me a few options. I think he will make a nice sales colt next year.

“Written Tycoons are hard enough to get your hands on,” Mills told ANZ Bloodstock.

“And I don’t think there will be too many of his colts going through the ring for less than $150,000 next year.

“You have to be realistic with pin-hooks. If they break even, then it’s a free shot at the stumps.”
