Highland Reel shuttles to Swettenham Stud

Swettenham Stud has announced Highland Reel will shuttle from Coolmore Ireland to its Nagambie nursery in 2018.

Highland Reel (Ire) is one of 70 individual Group 1 winners by the all-conquering Galileo and is bred on the same Danehill cross as Frankel.  He was a firm favourite of trainer Aidan O’Brien.  “An incredible horse with pace and courage and tactical speed – he had everything.”

His long list of highlights includes Group 1 victories in the Breeders’ Cup Turf, Secretariat Stakes, Hong Kong Vase (twice), King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Prince Of Wales’ Stakes and Coronation Cup (G1).

He also finished third behind Winx in her first G1 Cox Plate in October 2015.

Highland Reel will stand at a $15,000 (plus gst) service fee.  He is out of Australian-bred Group 1 mare Hveger (Danehill) who is a close relation of Elvstroem, Haradasun and Starspangledbanner.

“With his tremendous race record and what is clearly a stallion’s pedigree, I’m highly confident he will attract broodmare owners from all states, particularly at such a competitive fee,” Swettenham owner Adam Sangster said.
