Fresh is best for Hot Snitzel

Hot Snitzel races best fresh and he resumed with another first-up victory in the G2 ATC Royal Sovereign Stakes on Saturday.

Hot Snitzel (3c Snitzel – Flames Of Paris by Blushing Groom) denied short-priced favourite Manawanui by a long-head at Warwick Farm to improve his record to 5 wins in 12 starts for $631,000 in prizemoney.

“It was a good gutsy win which is what I’ve come to expect from him,” trainer Gerald Ryan said.  “He’s not top class but comes up bigger and stronger every time.”

Hot Snitzel was purchased by Triple Crown Syndications for $60,000 from the Bellerive Stud draft at the 2010 Melbourne Premier Sale.  He is from a half-sister to G1 Irish Moyglare Stakes winner Park Appeal (Ahonoora) and is related to champion sires Cape Cross (Green Desert) and Iffraaj (Zafonic).

Bellerive Stud will offer 29 yearlings at this year’s Melbourne Sale starting on Monday, February 27 including five by Snitzel.

Hot Snitzel has started four times first-up starting with a debut win at Rosehill in December 2010 and he also claimed the LR Brian Crowley Stakes at Randwick in October when resuming for the spring carnival.  His only loss first-up was nose second to Uate in the G3 Skyline Stakes at Warwick Farm in March 2011.

Hot Snitzel claimed the G2 QTC Sires’ Produce Stakes and LR Ken Russell Memorial at the 2011 Queensland winter carnival.  He was also a G1 runner-up to Benfica in the T J Smith at Eagle Farm.

Snitzel stands alongside his breed-shaping sire Redoute’s Choice at Arrowfield for a $27,500 service fee.
