Fritzy Boy (NZ) wound back the clock at the scene of his greatest triumph in the G3 Traderacks Stakes at Hastings on Saturday.
Fritzy Boy (8g Brilliance – Fritzy Girl by Cache Of Gold) responded to a perfect ride from Hayden Tinsley to bring back memories of his G1 Mudgway Stakes victory on the same course back in 2008.
“He jumped well, got a good trail and settled beautifully,” Tinsley said. “He showed a lot of fight and the 60kg was nothing – the spread between the top and bottom weights isn’t what is used to be.”
Fritzy Boy (8g Brilliance – Fritzy Girl by Cache Of Gold) has displayed great versatility throughout his career. He won on debut at Foxton in August 2007 and was G1 placed in the 2008 NZ Derby won by C’est La Guerre. His overall record now reads 54 starts for 15 wins and $786,400 in prizemoney.
“He was battling a niggling leg injury earlier this season,” Opaki trainer Alby MacGregor said. “But he’s a tough old fellow and it’s a great thrill to win here again.”
Fritzy Boy is raced by MacGregor and Wairarapa owner-breeder John Jury. He is by Grangewilliam Stud’s USA bred sire Brilliance (Thunder Gulch) and his dam Fritzy Girl has also foaled subsequent winners Hoover Boy (Stark South) and Jack’s Boy (Brilliance).
