Galileo claims sixth title in Europe

Galileo has secured a sixth European sires’ title in a year headed by his classic winners Australia (English Derby) and Marvellous (Irish 1000 Guineas).

The Coolmore Stud superstar’s earning reached 8.59 million pounds (AUD 16.24 million) in 2014.  The son of Sadler’s Wells sired 7 Group 1 winners in Europe last year among 137 individual winners.

Runner-up Invincible Spirit enjoyed a spectacular year of his own with earnings of 4.94 million pounds (AUD 9.34 million).  The Irish National Stud champion sired Kingman and Charm Spirit who claimed 7 Group 1 events between them.

Third-placed Shamardal thrived across the globe and his European total included the Group 1 winners Baltic Baroness (Prix Vermeille) and Mukhadram (Eclipse Stakes).  Fellow Darley sire Dubawi claimed fourth spot capping a memorable year that started with English 2000 Guineas winner in Night Of Thunder.

Invincible Spirit topped the individual winner count on 142 followed by Galileo (137), Shamardal (134), Oasis Dream (125) and Footstepsinthesand (120).

Galileo edged out Kodiac to win the 2YO title with 1.09 million pounds (AUD 2.06 million).  That total was helped along by Ballydoyle Group 1 winners Found, Gleneagles and Together Forever.

Kodiac, a half-brother Invincible Spirit, ran away with the numbers title, siring a record-breaking 43 individual winners.  The standout season including G1 Cheveley Park Stakes winner Tiggy Wiggy.

Lope De Vega won the first-season title sire with his colt Belardo an emphatic winner of the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes.  The Ballylinch Stud resident defeated Siyouni and Showcasing.  Tally Ho Stud freshman Zebedee finished fourth on the prizemoney premiership but topped the individual winners title with 32.
