Gingerbread Man all class at Kranji

Singapore star Gingerbread Man gave away age and race fitness in a Kranji Open Handicap on Friday night but was still too classy for his more seasoned rivals.

Gingerbread Man (3c Shamardal – Quaffle by Hurricane Sky) was resuming from a six-week break and increased his career statistics to 9 wins from 12 starts and over S$940,000 in prizemoney.

The Shamardal colt settled on the speed behind Happy Everybody (Commands) before jockey Danny Beasley sent him to the lead in the home straight.  They comfortably held out six year-old gelding Keep Away (Jpn) by over a length over 1400m.

Gingerbread Man was crowned Singapore’s Champion 2YO of 2010 and completed the 3YO Triple Crown in May.

“To be honest, he’s had a nice easy time since winning the 3YO Challenge,” trainer Bruce Marsh reported.  “He has come back stronger but there was no shortage of honest horses in tonight’s race.

“He will now go to the Chairman’s Trophy at the end of the month.  It’s been a race I’ve been thinking about for him as I would like to test him over more ground.”

Gingerbread Man is raced by Joe Singh after being purchased for $30,000 from Rothwell Park at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale.

His dam Quaffle is a half-sister to Listed QTC Lightning Hcp winner Golden Snitch (Unbridled’s Song).  She has a yearling colt and a weanling filly by Darley shuttler Bernardini and was served by Lonhro last year.

Second dam Sydney’s Spy (Snippets) is a half-sister to G1 AJC Epsom Hcp winner Iron Horse (Zephyr Zip).

Darley stallion Shamardal has sired 28 stakes winners world-wide but Gingerbread Man is the only one to earn black-type in Singapore.
