Golden buy Diamond favourite

Peter Moody bought the favourite for the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes for just a fraction of the seven-figure sum  he spent on yearlings at last week’s Magic Millions.

Golden Archer (2c Rock Of Gibraltar – Viennetta by Pins) cost just $80,000 at the 2010 Inglis Easter yearling sale and victory in the LR Blue Diamond Preview (C&G) at Caulfield on Wednesday will be a windfall for the colt’s connections.

In normal circumstances, Golden Archer would be favourite for the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes next month but he isn’t nominated.  A $55,000 late entry fee will see him qualified and first prizemoney in the Preview will see to that.

Golden Archer is by Coolmore sire Rock Of Gibraltar from the G2 Ellerslie winner Viennetta.

Moody won the 2009 Blue Diamond Stakes with Reward For Effort and his latest star is two-for-two at Caulfield and Flemington.  “He’s our best juvenile to surface this season,” Moody noted.  “There’s more improvement to come and he might appreciate head gear.”

Moody will also saddle up Blue Diamond Preview (Fillies) favourite One Last Dance on Wednesday.  The beautifully bred youngster won by four lengths the only time she faced the starter at Moonee Valley on December 17.

One Last Dance (2f Encosta De Lago – One World by Danehill) is by Coolmore’s champion sire while her dam was a Flemington 2YO winner in G3 company.  Second dam Prawn Cocktail (Artichoke) is a half-sister to Royal Academy and the dam of Storm Cat.
