With 629 of the 686 lots catalogued for the 2011 Perth Magic Millions Yearling Sale having been nominated for the Westspeed Incentive Scheme by their breeder, there should be no problem for prospective owners in finding a participating yearling to their liking.
Each of these yearlings, which are denoted with the Westspeed logo on their catalogue page, can then be made full Westspeed nominations by their new owners via payment of the Westspeed Owner Nomination Fee ($1,100 inc. GST) and thus qualified to claim a full bonus for every win recorded at two and three years of age as well as at four years of age in events over 1,800 metres or more.
Once again the catalogue is brimming with the progeny of broodmares with an established reputation for producing successful racetrack performers but the depth and quality of this sale is considerably enhanced by the inclusion of the first progeny of a number of exceptional race mares.
As Westspeed is not restricted to yearlings that are sales graduates, breeders and owners of all eligible yearlings are invited to nominate the for scheme.
Nominations can be at the breeder level only (in which case the breeder’s component of the bonus only is paid) or the full level (both breeder and owner bonuses paid) but owner nominations cannot be accepted if a horse’s breeder (as per the Australian Studbook) does not wish to subscribe.
However, in such cases the registered breeder can facilitate the horse’s participation by providing written permission for the new owner to pay as the breeder as well as the owner and be recorded as such for Westspeed purposes only, thus entitling them to the full amount of any bonuses the horse may win in the future.
To be eligible for the scheme, a yearling must meet one or more of the following criteria:
– Be the progeny of a sire standing in WA at the time the dam is served;
– Irrespective of sire or foaling location, be bred either fully or in part (as recorded by the Australian Studbook) by a breeder who was a resident of Western Australia at the time the mare was served; and
– Have been at foot or in utero of a mare at the time that mare was purchased, either fully or in part, by a Western Australian based breeder.
Nominations for 2009 foals will remain open until 27 May 2011 and forms can be obtained from the RWWA website
