Gonski colt tops Day 1 of Magic Millions HIT Sale

A colt by Darley sire Gonski topped Day 1 of the Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale at the Gold Coast on Wednesday when selling for $180,000.

The Gonsksi – Blazing Sky colt had been pin-hooked from the 2010 Adelaide Magic Millions yearling sale by Kenmore Lodge for $15,000.  He changed hands again on the Gold Coast yesterday when purchased by South African agent Andy Williams.

His dam is a Hurricane Sky half sister to stakes winners Si Senor and Bello Signor.  “He’s a magnificent individual and looks a great prospect,” Williams said.  “He will be heading to Pat Shaw in Singapore.”

Day 1 of the Magic Millions HIT Sale grossed $4.73 million at an average price of $43,427.  A total of 15 lots sold for $100,000 or more.

“The bidding picked up as the session continued and the final figures from the session were quite encouraging,” Magic Millions Managing Director Stephen Silk said.  “The clearance rate finished up at 67% and we’re hoping that lifts to over 70% on Thursday.”

Silk and his team believe there is an equally as impressive line up of juveniles to go under the hammer on Thursday as the sale attempts to outdo last year’s gross of $7.57 million with a smaller catalogue this time around.
