Barside is the latest Group 1 prospect to emerge from the NZ Ready to Run Sale. Trainer Trent Busuttin will set him for the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas at Riccarton next month after an impressive victory at Trentham last Saturday.
Barside (3g Tobougg – Chita Rivera by Casual Lies) showed a strong turn-of-foot to win the G2 Wellington Guineas by more than three lengths from front-runner Elusive Tracy (Elusive City).
Barside was offered at NZ Bloodstock’s 2009 Ready to Run Sale by Windsor Park but was passed in for $38,000. He was subsequently bought by a large syndicate managed by Busuttin. He is out of a half-sister to Natalie Wood (Yachtie) who is the dam of talented John Hawkes trained galloper Maluckyday (Zabeel).
Barside is the second Ready to Run Sale graduate to register Group success so far this season with Linton (Galileo) already winning the G2 Herbert Power Stakes. The Sale’s success has carried on in fine fashion from last season’s phenomenal results which saw graduates win the G1 Hong Kong Champions Mile, G1 New Zealand Derby and G1 WRC Telegraph Handicap.
Linton is due to line up in the Lexus Stakes this weekend where a win would see him gain entry to the Melbourne Cup.
The 2010 NZ Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale will be conducted at Karaka on November 16 & 17.
