Group 1 Stradbroke Hcp winner Under The Louvre is about to enhance an already brilliant career by taking up stud duties in Queensland.
A lightning-fast sprinter, he will be based at Grandview Stud near Ipswich for a $7,700 (inc gst) service fee. Studmaster Michael Grieve will stand him alongside Jet Spur (Flying Spur) and Whittington (Tale of the Cat).
“Under the Louvre had incredible acceleration,” trainer Robert Smerdon said. “He mixed it with the best and faced 9 Group 1 winners including Black Heart Bart in the Stradbroke.
“He could easily have been a multiple Group 1 winner. I thought he was a bit stiff in the Oakleigh Plate when he flew home in 33s flat and he only missed by a lip in the Rupert Clarke and a neck in the Goodwood.
“He’s a tremendous individual. He never bulked up like a lot of entires and has a terrific nature. He’s a very good stallion prospect if he throws that explosive turn of foot, athleticism and temperament into his progeny.”
The 6yo stallion retires with an overall record of 9 wins in 35 starts for $1.82 million in prizemoney. Besides the 2016 Stradbroke, he also won at Listed level in the Headquarters Stakes at Flemington and Hareeba Stakes at Mornington.
Under The Louvre is a son of Excellent Art (Pivotal) who was a Group 1 winner of the St James Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot. Pivotal has a massive 18% stakes performers-to-runners strike-rate when matched up with mares from the Danehill sireline.
