Barakey completed a landmark month for Rangeview Stud in the G1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Unbeaten after 11 starts, Barakey is a son of Rangeview resident Key Business who has been based at the Bullsbrook stud since 1995.
Rangeview owners Rob and Jody Gray purchased Henny Hughes to join the roster earlier this year and within weeks his filly Beholder began a campaign that culminated in the Group 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on November 2.
“We think Henny Hughes is a fantastic stallion prospect,” Jody Gray said. “It was a dream come true when Beholder won the Breeders’ Cup.
“And now we’ve got another Group 1 with Barakey! Key Business is in remarkable condition for a 22 year-old stallion. He’s serving a smaller book this season and many of them are his old sweethearts.”
Barakey (5g Key Business – Dance Hi by Ideal Planet) will be set for an autumn campaign in Melbourne after an authoritative victory in the Winterbottom. He shadowed front-runner Travinator off some fast sectionals before defying quick-closers Power Princess (Marwina) and Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo).
Trainer Jim Taylor prepares Western Australia’s latest sprint star for Aristos Mihalopoulos and his uncle Terry Zeppos. The gelding won on debut at Belmont in June 2011 and broke through at black-type level in the LR Northam Stakes in April.
Barakey is a brother to LR Belmont Oaks winner Ifestio. Their dam Dance Hi has also foaled G3 Champion Fillies winner Hi On Love (Love a Dane) and the dam of LR Bunbury Stakes winner Keytomoney (Key Business). Dance Hi won a Champion Fillies of her own back in 1995.
Key Business (Success Express) was a precocious sprinter for the late Col Green, winning stakes races at Ascot and Belmont before retiring to Rangeview. He has sired 206 individual winners of 715 races at a 52% strike-rate.
Rangeview stands Key Business for a $4,400 (inc gst) service fee.
