Group 1 double for Dubawi

Former Darley shuttler Dubawi claimed an international Group 1 double on the weekend in South Africa and Germany.

Australian bred filly Happy Archer downed a crack field in Saturday’s Garden Province Stakes (1600m) at Greyville and Waldpark led in a classic quinella for trainer Andreas Wohler in the German Derby (2400m) at Hamburg on Sunday

Happy Archer (3f Dubawi – So Tempted by Jeune) was a $23,000 buy out of the Racetree draft at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She had already earned a G1 in the Thekwini Stakes at Greyville last year.

The Queensland bred filly returned to Durban for the July Handicap meeting and found plenty under proven big race rider Anton Marcus to defeat Beach Beauty and Dance With Al.

Happy Archer is one of two stakes winners produced by the 100% winner-getter So Tempted.  An Adelaide winner in her own right, So Tempted is also the dam of the LR Gold Coast Bracelet winner Femina Fashion (Shamardal).

So Tempted is a full sister to G2 Wakeful Stakes winner Lolita Star and half sister to the Adelaide Guineas winner Berezny.

Waldpark extended his unbeaten run to four with a convincing two length victory in the Deutsches Derby.  He cruised up to the leaders turning for home before getting the better of his stablemate Earl Of Tinsdal (Black Sam Bellamy).

Waldpark (3c Dubawi – Wurftaube by Acatenango) is a homebred for Gestut Ravensberg and gave Wohler his first German Derby since Belenus was successful in 1999.  The colt is from G2 German St Leger winner Wurftaube and she is the dam or second dam of four stakes winners.

Dubawi has sired 169 individual winners world-wide at a 55% strike rate and his first northern crop are still only mid-season four year-olds.  His black-type winners to winners strike-rate is a remarkable 17%.

Dubawi (Dubai Millenium) has 68 yearlings and another 78 weanlings in Australia.  He hasn’t shuttled here since 2009.
