Magic 600 for Yarraman Park sire

Yarraman Park runners have been on fire in recent weeks.  Apart from its regular roll-call of domestic winners, the historic Hunter Valley nursery has also been represented by black-type winners in Hong Kong, Singapore and South Africa.

Fighting Warrior confirmed his status as one of the rising stars in South Africa with a stunning victory in the G1 Golden Horseshoe at Greyville on Saturday.

Fighting Warrior (2c Magic Albert – Dark Blue by Wallenda) is part-owned by Fred Crabbia and carries the colours made famous by champion international sprinter Rocket Man.

He is the fourth G1 winner by Magic Albert following Ilovethiscity, Albert the Fat and Magic Cape.  The Yarraman stallion has now sired 217 winners of 600 races at a 63% strike-rate.

The Golden Horseshoe winner went through the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale-ring twice – first as a foal for $15,000 and then as a yearling for $29,000.

Fighting Warrior is from Sydney winner Dark Blue and she is a half sister to the G1 Bayer Classic winner Prussian Blue.

Yarraman Park’s Arthur and Harry Mitchell celebrated the South African victory after a ground-breaking run of results in June.

Sichuan Success started the month with a G3 win in the Premier Cup at Sha Tin and Speed Baby followed up with a G1 success in the Patron’s Bowl at Kranji.

Both winners are sons of Fastnet Rock and both were purchased from the Yarraman consignment at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale.

Sichuan Success is trained by John Size and cost $135,000.  He is a half-brother to the stakes performers Tom Coureuse and Pirouettes.

Speed Baby made $280,000 and won six of his first eight starts including the G1 Coronation Cup in Malaysia.  He will be one of the favourites for the upcoming Singapore Derby after powering home to defeat Better Than Ever in the Patron’s Bowl.

Yarraman Park and Fastnet Rock are proven combination.  They also combined to win the LR Gai Waterhouse Classic with Born To Rock at Ipswich on June 18.

That win coincided with news the Mitchell brothers had signed Fastnet Rock’s high-class son Hinchinbrook to stand at Yarraman Park this spring.
