Dylan Thomas has unearthed another promising youngster in Ireland. His colt Furner’s Green won like a horse with a future in the Irish Stallions Maiden (1500m) at Tipperary on Saturday night.
Furner’s Green (2c Dylan Thomas – Lady Icarus by Rainbow Quest) was held up at the back of the field by jockey Joseph O’Brien before making headway on the approach to the straight. He went about the task with relish and quickened up smartly to win going away by three lengths on debut.
Second home was Battle Of Saratoga who is another of Ballydoyle’s Dylan Thomas colts. Canaille (Giant’s Causeway) filled out the trifecta for Coolmore stallions.
“Furner’s Green has been showing us plenty at home, but was a little green,” trainer Aidan O’Brien said. “He quickened up well and won very snugly at the end.”
The winner was catalogued for the 2010 Tattersalls October Sale and was retained by Glenvale Stud with a vendor bid of 50,000 guineas.
He is a half-brother to Listed winners Mystical Lady (Dundalk) and Lady Lupus (Curragh). Second dam Sonic Lady (Nureyev) was a G1 winner of the Irish 1000 Guineas, Sussex Stakes and Prix du Moulin.
Furner’s Green holds an entry in the G1 National Stakes in September and he’s not the only Dylan Thomas with G1 ambitions. Last week, O’Brien produced well bred filly Devotion to win her maiden at Leopardstown.
Devotion is from a Sadler’s Wells mare and so is Snowflake Dancer who opened the Dylan Thomas account at Dundalk in March.
Dylan Thomas has sired 3 first-crop winners from 13 starters so far this season.
A six-time G1 winning son of Danehill, Dylan Thomas has his first Australasian bred runners ready to debut in 2011-12. His rising two year-olds are with trainers like Peter Moody, John O’Shea, Chris Waller, Robert Smerdon, Anthony Cummings, Bart Cummings, Mike Moroney, Mark Kavanagh, Les Bridge, Tony Noonan, Mick Price etc.
Dylan Thomas will stand at Coolmore Australia this coming season at a fee of $19,800 (inc gst)
