Helene Mascot is covering his first book of mares at Crown Valley Lodge in Victoria this spring.
An international stakes winner, he raced as Salford Mill in England and won the LR Newmarket Stakes before finishing sixth in the 2006 G1 English Derby behind Authorized.
Sold to clients of trainer Tony Cruz and renamed Helene Mascot, he was a first up winner of the G1 Hong Kong Classic Mile and then claimed the G1 Hong Kong Derby. “He’s a terrific horse,” Cruz said. “He fights and fights and doesn’t know when he’s beaten.”
Helene Mascot (7h Peintre Celebre – Razana by Kahyasi) is a son of Arc de Triomphe winner Peintre Celebre. During five seasons shuttling to the Hunter Valley, he sired the G1 winners Bentley Biscuit, Mr Sandgroper, Mr Celebrity and Jam Alley.
First dam Razana won her maiden on debut at Chepstow and she was also stakes placed at Nantes in France. She is a half sister to the dam of G1 Prix de l’Opera winner Kinnaird.
Helene Mascot stands alongside South American G1 winner Masterpiece. The son of Southern Halo arrived here in 2008 and he stood a one-off season at Chatswood Stud last year.
