2010 Belmont Stakes winner Drosselmeyer will retire to Keane Stud in New York after his final start in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on November 5.
Drosselmeyer (Distorted Humor) will be the first American classic winner to retire directly to stud in New York. He will stand at Keane Stud in association with WinStar Farm.
“Starting a young stallion prospect like Drosselmeyer in the New York market shows how serious WinStar is about our commitment to that State’s emerging breeding program,” WinStar CEO Elliott Walden said.
“He’s by our champion sire Distorted Humor and we followed him from a foal. He’s always been a superstar and we had to have him, which is why we purchased him for $600,000 as a yearling from Aaron Jones.”
Drosselmeyer was runner-up to Flat Out in the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont in his most recent start.
A son of Distorted Humor, Drosselmeyer is out of G1 winner Golden Ballet who was purchased by Coolmore for $1.40 million at last year’s Keeneland November Sale.
Earlier this month, WinStar announced it would stand young Storm Cat sire Bluegrass Cat at Vinery’s New York based Sugar Maple Farm.
New York’s new casino at Aqueduct has been the catalyst for major developments for the State’s racing and breeding industries.
