Gerry Harvey celebrated a Group 3 double in Australia and South Africa on Saturday. The Magic Millions boss struck with winners off his stud farms in New Zealand (Westbury) and Australia (Baramul).
Brazilian Pulse claimed the first leg when she was a consummate winner of the G3 Keith Nolan Classic (1800m) at Rosehill on Saturday. The Mike Moroney trained chestnut will back up in the G1 Vinery Stakes next weekend before attempting to become the first filly to complete the VRC – AJC Oaks double since Serenade Rose.
Going into the weekend, Moroney had been in two minds whether to aim Brazilian Pulse for the Doncaster Handicap or the AJC Oaks. “The 1800m stretched her a little second-up on Saturday but the run will have cleaned her up nicely. I just think her best form is at 2000m plus and she should be spot-on for the Oaks.”
Brazilian Pulse (3f Captain Rio – Sharazad by Tenby) has now earned over $1.10 million from a 8: 5-2-1 career card. She was a $26,000 buy from Raffles Farm at the 2009 National Yearling Sale.
Harvey stands her sire Captain Rio (Pivotal) at Westbury Stud beside Swiss Ace (Secret Savings), Red Giant (Giant’s Causeway), Cecconi (Encosta de Lago), Faltaat (Mr Prospector), Librettist (Danzig) and Postponed (Summer Squall).
South African based colt Delago Deluxe also won at G3 level in the Protea Stakes at Turffontein on Saturday.
Delago Deluxe (2c Encosta de Lago – Succeeding by Flying Spur) was a $550,000 buy from Baramul Stud at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions. His dam Succeeding is one of five winners from Peter Moran’s outstanding broodmare Staging.
Moran has also bred the G1 winners Duporth (Red Ransom) and Excites (Danewin) from the mare as well as a G2 winner Tickets (Redoute’s Choice).
Delago Deluxe is raced by Marcus Jooste and expectations will be high after his three length victory. Jooste also raced Dan De Lago (Encosta De Lago) to a G2 victory in the Gold Circle Derby at Turffontein.
