Guineas goal for El Greco

El Greco had shown enough potential at the provincials to go out favourite for the Eugene Gorman Hcp (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.

The Peter Moody trained, Contract Racing owned two year-old had won on debut at Kilmore and then ran second to classy colt Prince Of Brooklyn in the VOBIS Gold Elvstroem Classic at Swan Hill before a first-up victory in town.

Ridden for the first time by stable jockey Luke Nolen, he lengthened like a nice horse to post a better than three-length victory.  “He might measure up on that win,” Nolen said.  “He didn’t give me much of a feel until I put one behind the saddle and then he ate up 1400m.”

Artie Schiller (USA) got him out of La Signorina (Distorted Humor) and she had already thrown the winners Top Cat In Town (Artie Schiller) and Will’s Choice (Keep The Faith).  The mare is a half-sister to stakes winners Si Signor (Racer’s Edge) and Bello Signor (Raami).

“El Greco will be suited in a race like the Sandown Guineas,” stable spokesman Jeff O’Connor said.  “He’s got miler written all over him.”

Artie Schiller (El Prado) is looking for another top-class galloper after the recent retirement of his outstanding mare Vain Queen.  She won the G3 Mumm Stakes at last year’s Melbourne Cup carnival and was also runner-up in the G1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley in March.

Emirates Park Victoria will stand Artie Schiller for a $13,200 (inc gst) service fee in 2015.
