Vinery sire Mossman opened Queensland’s richest raceday on a winning note when Number One Gun scored a dashing victory in the Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1200m) on the Gold Coast.
Number One Gun (3g Mossman – Graphite Lass by Unbridled’s Song) cleared out in the straight and had enough in reserve to defeat quick closer Viking Heart (Show A Heart).
The Clarry Conners trained Bolero Dancer, a son of Vinery sire Bel Danoro, finished another length away in third place.
It was Mossman’s third triumph at the Magic Millions. His top-class filly Pure Energy won the 2006 Magic Millions 2YO Plate and Midnight At Ascot was successful in last year’s Magic Millions Country Cup.
Number One Gun was sold for $25,000 as part of the Yarraman Park draft at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale. “He can really gallop,” trainer John O’Shea said. “He’s got a lovely action and I think he’s going to be a much better horse when we let him relax.”
His dam Graphite Lass won on debut at Bendigo and, at her only other start, was stakes placed in the 2000 LR Merson Cooper Stakes at Sandown.
Graphite Lass has a 2yo filly by Yarraman sire Trotamondo (Chi) and she foaled a colt by Yarraman newcomer I Am Invincible in September.
