Hat-trick for Dane Belltar

Foals from G3 winning mare Dane Belltar (Danewin) completed a winning hat-trick in Adelaide and Melbourne on Saturday.

Viking Star (Centrebet Hcp) won the first leg at Morphettville before Tanby (LR The Bart Cummings) and Fawkner (LR Headquarters Tavern Stakes) doubled up at Flemington.

Viking Star (Red Ransom) has won three races from just five starts for trainer Leon Macdonald.  He prepared Dane Belltar to a G3 victory in the SAJC Auraria Stakes for owner Steve Bennetts.  She was also a G1 runner-up to Special Harmony in the 2003 G1 VRC Oaks.

The Adelaide winner cost $120,000 at the 2011 Inglis Easter yearling sale from the draft of Mill Park.

Tanby (Galileo) put himself in the mix for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups with a strong win at Flemington for Lloyd and Nick Williams.  Mill Park sold him for $200,000 at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  “We’ve always had a big opinion of this horse coming through the grades,” Nick Williams said.  “I think it was a pretty soft win and his next start will be either the Caulfield Cup or Moonee Valley Cup.”

Team Williams stablemate Fawkner completed the treble at Flemington.  “He was badly in at the weights and sat three wide without cover,” Williams said.  “There was a lot of merit to the win.”

Fawkner (Reset) was picked up for $70,000 by Team Williams from the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale again from the draft of Mill Park.  “Dane Belltar is obviously a super mare,” Williams continued.  “Leon must have done a good job training her.”

Dane Belltar missed in 2010 and slipped in 2011 before producing a grey filly by Starcraft in August.
