Havre De Grace sold for $10 million at Kentucky Sale

USA Horse of the Year Havre De Grace starred at Monday evening’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky November Sale.  The five-year-old Saint Liam mare was sold by owner Rick Porter for $10 million to Whisper Hill Farm.

Havre de Grace began her 2011 Horse of the Year campaign by defeating Blind Luck in the G3 Azeri Stakes and followed up in the G1 Apple Blossom Hcp.  After being outdueled by Blind Luck in a G2 Delaware Hcp thriller, Havre de Grace defeated the colts in the G1 Woodward Stakes.  She then gave champion filly Royal Delta an 8 length beating in the G1 Beldame Invitational.

Remaining in training for 2012, Havre de Grace returned to action with a four length victory in the LR New Orleans Ladies Stakes but was retired after injuring her off-fore leg.  She bowed out with 9 wins from 16 starts and earnings over $2.58 million.

Havre de Grace is from the only crop of ill-fated 2005 Horse of the Year Saint Liam.  She headed a list of 15 horses who sold for $1 million or more on Monday night.  Other highlights included;

UNTOUCHED TALENT (Storm Cat):  Dam of Bodemeister sold to Coolmore for $5 million.
SWITCH (Quiet American): Multiple G1 winning mare sold to Moyglare Stud Farm for $4.30 million.
CRY AND CATCH ME (Street Cry):  G1 Oak Leaf winner sold to Live Oak Plantation for $3.50 million.
GRACE HALL (Empire Maker):  G1 Spinaway Stakes winner sold to Reynolds Bell Jr for $3.20 million.
ZAGORA (Green Tune):  G1 2012 BC Filly & Mare Turf winner sold to Mandore Agency for $2.50 million.

Fasig-Tipton reported that 87 horses were sold for $60.22 million on Monday.  The average soared 67% to $692,184.
