Headwater fillies focus on black-type

A stakes race is the focus for Headwater filly Money In My Pocket on the strength of her powerful victory at Donald on Friday.

The Mitch Freedman-trainee made it two wins from as many starts this prep in the Mallee Landscapes Hcp (1204m).  She had won on Ballarat’s synthetic surface last month and improved again on turf with a potent kick to defeat Wild Charlotte (Written Tycoon) by more than a length running away.

“We gave her a one-off start back in March at Cranbourne but she didn’t like the tight circuit down there,” Freedman said.  “I’ve liked her right from the outset even though she had to strengthen up considerably.”

Money In My Pocket (3f Headwater – Little Evie by Al Maher) will now step up for a black-type assignment in the Jim Moloney Stakes LR at Caulfield on September 19 or the Scarborough Stakes Gr.3 at Moonee Valley on September 25.

The Scarborough Stakes is also on the radar for Headwater filly Mileva who won first-up at Morphettville on Saturday.

“She’s earned it,” Freedman said.  “There’s plenty of races around for a 3yo filly at this time of year and she would be a pretty valuable broodmare prospect with a stakes success.

“She can switch off and I can see her stretching out to 1400m and further down the track,” Freedman added.  “She has a ripper action and I’m sure there’s plenty improvement to come as she continues to develop.”

Money in My Pocket is raced by a syndicate managed by Scott McQueen and is from a half-sister to Group 3 winners Bliss Street (Thousand Guineas Prelude) and Jade Marauder (Sweet Embrace Stakes).

Vinery stands Headwater (Exceed And Excel) for a $13,750 (inc GST) service fee, payable on a live foal and he is fully booked for 2020.  For further information about Vinery’s other stallions please contact Adam White (0414 800 918) or Harry Roach (0401 970 006).
