Headwater filly set for Princess Series

Headwater 3yo filly Jamaea is back in work for what could be very special spring and summer campaigns with trainers Rob and Luke Price.

Jamaea kept raising the bar during a five-start prep earlier this year and peaked with a Group 2 victory in the $1million Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) in April.

The Percy Sykes was run on the final day of The Championships and Jamaea will return to Randwick to cherry-pick a couple of feature races during the Princess Series.  “If everything goes to plan, she will be back for the Silver Shadow and Tea Rose,” Luke Price predicted.  “Depending on how she comes up, it might be a light spring prep because she’s a Magic Millions filly.”

The Silver Shadow Stakes (Gr.2, 1200m) is scheduled for August 21 and the Tea Rose Stakes (Gr.2, 1400m) for September 18.  “We were really pleased with her development after six weeks up at the farm.  She was giving some size away in the Percy Sykes but that didn’t stop her bursting between a couple of those bigger fillies in the straight.”

Jamaea (2f Headwater – Isibaeva by Johannesburg) will also be nominated for the Flight Stakes (Gr.1, 1600m) on October 2.  “We will wait until after the Silver Shadow before making any decisions about going out to a mile,” Price said.  “We want to be in Queensland before Christmas to give her one run going into the Magic Millions.”

A $130,000 yearling buy on behalf of brothers Bruce and Ken Noble at the Gold Coast in 2020, she is from a Bow Mistress Stakes Gr.3 winner as is her second-dam Dragila (Encosta de Lago).

Jamaea returns to training at an exciting time for Vinery sire Headwater who currently leads the Australian second-season premiership ($3.22m) from Pride Of Dubai ($2.91m).  He’s also heads the wins column (66) from Spill The Beans (64) and Vancouver (63).

Headwater will take running down if his recent run continues to the end of the season.  He sired 12 individual winners between May 12 (Aqua Girl) and June 12 (Aqua Lady) and they saluted from Canterbury (Vigorous Flow) in the east to Belmont (Enticing) in the west.

Vinery stands Headwater for a $16,500 (inc GST) service fee with payment on a live foal.  For bookings or further information, please contact Adam White (0414 800 918) or Harry Roach (0401 970 006).
