Heartening returns for Glenlogan Park

Glenlogan Park sires Jet Spur and Show A Heart registered very pleasing results at the Magic Millions yearling sale in what was undoubtedly one of the tougher years for breeders in recent times.

Queensland’s Champion stallion Show A Heart had set a new high for his yearlings when Bart Cummings bid $270,000 for the full sister to G2 winner Mimi Lebrock.

Show A Heart finished the first four days of selling with 11 of his youngsters realizing an average of $100,000, which placed him amongst one of the better return-on-investment sires in the catalogue.

Jet Spur’s youngsters were again very hot property in the sale ring and the rising star completed the main section of the sale with an incredible average of $114,500 (off just a $12,000 service fee) and a highest seller of $170,000.

Once again, these figures will place Jet Spur towards the very top of the return-on-investment tables – a position he has held from the moment his yearlings first hit the sales rings.

Almost all sires found it hard going, with notable stallions such as Choisir averaging $76,500, Commands $89,000, Tale Of The Cat $84,000, Danehill Dancer $81,600, Mossman $72,600, Royal Academy $71,600, Hussonet $73,000, Stratum $90,600 and Danzero $63,600 all feeling the effects of a market that is punishing breeders who over capitalise with their mare matings.

News that Rothesay had been signed up by Glenlogan Park meant he was one of the most talked about horses around the Gold Coast sales grounds.  Breeder response to the superbly bred son of Fastnet Rock was nothing short of unbelievable.

Fastnet Rock, who stood last season at a fee of $125,000, was again one of the most popular stallions at the Magic Millions where his youngsters averaged $180,000.

Rothesay (4h Fastnet Rock – Schiaparelli by Woodman) was his most naturally talented son and his dam-line is black-type through and through.  Second dam Canny Lass (Bletchingly) was a G1 winner of the MVRC William Reid Stakes, VATC Marlboro Cup and Elders Mile.  She is a sister to Darley’s G1 winning racehorse and sire Canny Lad.

Glenlogan Park owner Jon Haseler is delighted to have secured such an exciting stud prospect.  “Rothesay was a quality sprinter-miler by a sire that is taking all before him and he’s out of a proven stallion producing female family.

“He was one of the standout colts of his generation, had a tremendous turn of foot and is a magnificent looking animal.”

Rothesay will be based at Glenlogan Park alongside Show A Heart, Jet Spur, Real Saga, Falvelon, Bradbury’s Luck and Red Element.
